The Peterborough Ferry Meadows Mile
My Story:
Nicola and I were both fortunate enough to have recently enjoyed a fantastic honeymoon in Tanzania and Zanzibar. But during our time there we also witnessed first hand some of the poverty that hundreds of thousands of people (like the girl we saw in Bwejuu, pictured above) have to face on not just a daily basis, but for a whole life time. Our trip comepletely changed our outlook and made us so much more grateful for everything we have.

Tanzania is one of the countries that benefits from money raised through Sport Relief. With 97% of people living on less than £1.50 a day there, it is one of the poorest countries in the world. It costs just £2.50 to give a child a secondary school education in Tanzania, but not everyone there can afford that. It goes without saying that diseases like HIV and Malaria are a big problem there too, due to the poor healthcare.

£50 could pay for a bicycle ambulance to transport pregnant women to hospital in Tanzania, giving mother and baby a better chance of surviving, so if I reach my target, that gives two sets of families a great start in life. For more information about how Sport Relief (and Comic Relief) benefits Tanzania, visit this address: www.comicrelief.com/how_your_money_helps/by_geography/no_flash/503

Needless to say, a good portion of the money raised through Sport Relief will also go to the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, along with many worthwhile charities up and down the UK.

Running six miles (10km) for Sport Relief is the least I can do. Well, technically running the mile is the least I could have done... But the least you can do in sponsor me! Any donation will be greatly received - and it means you can watch all the Sport Relief entertainment guilt-free, safe in the knowledge that you've contributed and helped save lives.

Of course, the best Sport Relief entertainment this year will be watching me struggle to run six miles, so feel free to come down to Ferry Meadows and watch the spectacle!

A prize will go to the most imaginary way of sponsorship - i.e. a pound per mile, plus a bonus quid for every minute under an hour in which I complete it. Given that I'm quite out of shape and not a natural distance runner, my chances of breaking 60min are pretty slim. But if breaking the world 10km record of 27:01 means raising more money, then God damnit I'll aim for it!

Thank you for all your support!
